Cardiovascular disease is the largest killer in the industrialized world. According to the World Health Organization an estimated 17.3 million people on our planet died of cardiovascular disease in 2008 and that number is expected to increase to 23.6 million by 2030. 2200 people die of cardiovascular disease each day in the United States, an average of 1 death every 39 seconds (1 out of every 6 deaths). As we strive to understand how this is all linked and the opportunity to improve our way of educating healthcare professionals we came across the contingent from Duke University that couldn’t have been more perfect in helping us understand what it will take to develop standardized STEMI systems of care.

Dr. Christopher Granger, Mayme Lou Rettig and Dr. Jamie Jollis sat down with us in this up close and personal look into what they have achieved in North Carolina and their plans on rolling this out nationwide!
