In a world dominated by media images and cosmetic products promoting ‘size zero’ body shapes and ‘fair’ skin as the epitome of attractiveness, what does it mean to be beautiful from a Pan African perspective? Beauty Is… uses a collection of short films, animations, personal and group interviews to explore issues like hair, shadism, body image, relationships and character.
The film explores the health risks posed by chemical hair straighteners and skin bleaching whilst sharing insights on conditions like Vitiligo and Alopecia. It also suggests that we challenge the societal perceptions of ‘normalised’ beauty to prevent further harm being done to the self-esteem and confidence of children. Backed by a global campaign to challenge governments and the pharmaceutical industry, this is edutainment that may just change your life.
