Alfred & Jakobine is a documentary love story - or more accurately, a love-lost-story.
In 1955, merchant seaman, Alfred Hobbs meets young Danish artist Jakobine Schou in Yokohama, Japan. Eager to leave Japan, but with no money for passage, the two decide to stow her away on Alfred's ship.
In the weeks that follow, they fall in love onboard that ship, eventually get married, and for the next four years, travel around the world in a beat up, 1930's London taxi cab. They start with a daring crossing of the Sahara desert, then deeper into Africa, before loading the taxi on a boat to India, then Asia, and finally home to America.
But soon home life begins to suffocate Alfred, and one day, with little warning, he leaves Jakobine, breaking her heart, never to return.
Now, 50 years later, Alfred sells everything he owns to fix the old taxi, his oldest friend. His plan? To travel across America to find Jakobine, then offer her one more ride in their taxi, before it's too late. Will it make it? And if he does, how will Jakobine react to his arrival? Only time will tell.
