    Hawai'i Legacy Series: Kapi’olani

Directed by Kalepo Brown 2021 26 min
    Details
The true story of Chiefess Kapi’olani is larger than legend.
“It is written many of them were wailing and crying upon her departure… People thought that the lava would rise and it would actually consume her." -Kumu Lily Hanako Kahelelani Lyons.
Re-enactments throughout KAPI’OLANI are ripped from historic accounts of her odyssey to Kilauea volcano in 1824 as depicted in authentic cultural arts, gripping narrative and native olelo Hawai’i (Hawai’ian language).
The Hawai’i Legacy Series depicts struggles and achievements of prominent figures in Hawaiian history. This second of the documentary-series on Chiefess Kapi’olani and the first, ʻŌpūkahaʻia was released in 2020.

"One risked everything. Another lost all." See ʻŌpūkahaʻia and Kapi'olani, the first two films of the Hawai'i Legacy Series.
