"We are Egyptian… Armenians" is a message of tolerance and acceptance of the other. It’s a story about how people can live together in harmony and be part of the same community. It projects Egypt at the time when it welcomed people from all over the world to live, work and share their culture and experience with the society they live in. Through the memories of the generation of Armenians who came to Egypt after the massacres on 1915 to the dreams of the younger generation of today we follow the unique trajectory of that community.
The documentary tells also how Egypt allowed the Armenians to preserve their language, culture and heritage by building their own schools, sporting clubs and churches. Furthermore, it reveals how the Armenians contributed to the Egyptian social and economic life and gave all their best to their new homeland.
We wanted to share these stories and show that, whatever the cultural heritage and background might be, we can build a bridge for a better future.
