Edward Langley, a social worker with the local School Board, feels like a failure. He’s turning fifty. Nobody respects him and the School Board is thinking of firing him. Furthermore his marriage has deteriorated to a state of mutual antipathy. One night Edward meets his old school mate and best friend Dave at a strip club. Dave is a prosperous man and tells Edward to start over, leave the past behind. He is mesmerized by Dave's girlfriend, a flashy 'Russian' stripper named Natasha. Suddenly Dave starts to cough violently and collapses at the table. Edward and Natasha haul him outside to revive him and put him in Edward’s car. They leave for the nearest emergency ward, but Edward’s car breaks down on the road. As Natasha and Edward argue about the best way to get help for Dave, Dave lights up a cigarette inside Edward’s car near a leaking propane canister and blows himself up. Edward wants to do the right thing and notify the authorities, but Natasha knows that Dave has money. Dave was Natasha's last chance to start over and since Edward and Dave look so much alike...Enough for Edward to slip into Dave's discontinued life and ditch the one that wasn't working for him anyway.
